Scott Wells
Scott Wells is universally recognized as a leading authority in response operations. As a Federal Coordinating Officer for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he was the President’s senior Federal official in the field for approximately 25 disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. He held the same position during the Columbia Space Shuttle recovery operation in 2003, for which he earned a Federal Executive Board Award for his efforts.
Prior to his career at DHS, Mr. Wells served as an Army officer for more than 20 years, with 10 years’ Pentagon experience at both the Secretariat and Staff level. He provided Department of Defense (DoD) consequence management support to domestic operations such as the 1996 Olympics, the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, two Presidential inaugurals, numerous floods, fires and smaller hurricanes, and classified terrorist incidents.
Mr. Wells served as the DoD point of contact for military support to several law enforcement operations, including the 1992 Ruby Ridge incident and the Waco seige the following year. As a member of the DoD emergency operations staff, he provided military support to Hurricane Andrew and the Los Angeles riots in 1992, as well as numerous other disasters and emergencies.
