BATON ROUGE, LA May 5, 2010 – A team led by IEM, a global provider of security, safety, and sustainability solutions for government and business, will be supporting research and development of defensive chemical biological radiological nuclear explosive (CBRNE) systems under a multi-million dollar, multi-year contract with the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) in Maryland.Under the Indefinite Delivery /Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract, the IEM team is eligible to provide potentially $485 million in CBRNE support services over a five-year period. Support services include project management, research and development, and acquisition and sustainment support for ECBC’s Program Integration Directorate and the Research and Technology Directorate.
The contract will extend to the broader CBRNE defense community as other components are moved to the Edgewood area in the next few years as a result of base closure and realignment (BRAC) activities.
In making the announcement, IEM president and CEO Madhu Beriwal said the ECBC contract is the latest in IEM’s 17 years of CBRNE experience, including more than a decade supporting ECBC’s mission at Edgewood.
“ECBC is a world-class research institution that has sustained leadership in the development of defensive chemical and biological systems for almost 100 years,” Beriwal said. “The IEM team stands ready to provide the highest level of scientific expertise and credentials to support ECBC as the nation's principal research and development center for non-medical chemical and biological defense.”
