RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, August 11, 2010 - Madhu Beriwal, IEM President and CEO, was invited to speak at the Science and Technology for Homeland Security 2010 Conference organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). IEM is a global provider of safety, security, strategic performance, and sustainability solutions for government and business. The two-day conference, which took place July 29-30 in New Delhi, India, brought to light key issues in homeland security, focusing on security of infrastructure and territory. There were over 150 people in attendance from all over the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Israel. Indian government dignitaries, including Mr. G. K. Pillai, Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Scientific Advisor to the Defense Minister, Mr. V.K. Saraswat, provided opening remarks for the event.
Ms. Beriwal, a speaker on the critical infrastructure protection panel, presented S.M.A.R.T Warfighter, a 3D, mixed-reality training system that IEM developed to help the military improve counterterrorism training. The heart of the tool lies in its ability to train users to recognize potential terrorist threats before they happen and to take steps to stop or minimize attacks, which would ultimately lead to better protection of critical infrastructure.
“Critical infrastructure is identified differently for each country,” said Beriwal. “This conference provided an opportunity to identify what key sectors are critical for India, the issues they face, and begin exploring how those issues can be addressed.”
Ms. Beriwal is a frequent speaker at international conferences and workshops and is a regular guest lecturer for the Homeland Security Executive Leadership Program at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
